Applewood garners national recognition for highest quality senior living

News Release
2/1/2010

FREEHOLD TOWNSHIP –The CARF Continuing Care Accreditation Commission, the nation’s only system for accrediting continuing care retirement communities, has accredited Applewood Estates, CentraState’s active continuing care retirement community, for another five-year term. Nationally, only 15 percent of all continuing care retirement communities have earned this recognition. Applewood has been accredited by CARF since 1999 through its conformance to quality standards and ongoing commitment to improving the quality of life for residents.

"Our continued accreditation by the CARF Continuing Care Accreditation Commission validates Applewood’s unending commitment to providing seniors with a safe, comfortable and culturally rich environment where they can enjoy life to the fullest," Jay Solomon, MPA, LNHA, vice president, Senior Services, CentraState Healthcare System, says.

To earn accreditation, CARF representatives conduct on-site surveys to determine the level to which the organization meets standards for resident care and fiscal and community management. CARF surveyors consult with staff members and offer suggestions for improving the quality of services. Specific requirements to earn accreditation include: an ongoing commitment to quality resident care that includes wellness programs and health screenings; safe and seamless transfer between different levels of care; facilitating interaction with family and community; and implementing an appropriate strategic plan for the future. Accredited communities also voluntarily submit an Annual Conformance to Quality Report, Quality Improvement Plan, and undergo periodic on-site visits and reviews by CARF management.
